Interruption-ready conversation checklist

Map the six states a full-duplex video agent needs before you design screens

The six states to map for a full-duplex video agent before you design screens. Full-duplex means it listens while it talks, like Tavus Griffin. Right now Griffin is only a research preview for select testers (Tavus).

  1. Opening + AI disclosure. Does the first spoken line say it's an AI? Do the captions say it too?
  2. Listening. While the user talks, what does the agent show: nods, eye contact, a live caption?
  3. Back-channel. Which listening sounds ("mm-hm", "right") can it make without taking the turn? How often is too often?
  4. User cuts in. Does the agent stop mid-word, finish the clause or keep talking? What happens to the part it didn't say?
  5. Recovery. After the interruption, does it answer the new point, go back to the old one or ask which one?
  6. Silence + hand-off. How long can a pause last before it speaks? When does it offer a person, text chat or a way out?

For each state, write down the trigger, what the user sees and hears, and the next state.

Draw all six as nodes in your conversation flowchart. Then check one edge case: if the user interrupts the disclosure line, does the disclosure play again?
